Tony Fernandes welcomes new baby


PETALING JAYA: AirAsia chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has welcomed a new bundle of joy into his life.

Announcing the joyful event in a LinkedIn post, the 57-year-old said the pandemic has brought many negative surprises, but this was a positive one.

"I’m a father again, have two most amazing children and now we have a third. Aliyah Ena welcome to the world," Fernandes said.

A photo attached to the post showed that the baby girl is named Aliyah Ena Fernandes and was born on August 14, 2021.

The post saw over 10,000 reactions and close to 1,000 comments at press time, with many wishing Fernandes and his wife their congratulations.

"Congrats Tony! I'm sure she is the beginning of a new era, just like for AA," said Selvaraj Arivanathan.

Nigel Rosendale, in offering Fernandes his heartfelt congratulations, added that a baby "Certainly keeps older fathers young."

Another commenter, Peng Hoe Tan, said "You amazed us not only on your thrive on the business excellence, as well as (sic) you being a lovely father and husband."
