Cops nab 15, issue 343 summonses during three-day op to curb menaces on KL roads


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 343 summonses were issued while 15 individuals were detained for various offences during a three-day traffic operation in the city.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the operation, conducted from Friday (Oct 1) until Sunday (Oct 3), involved four senior officers and 90 officers at various locations including Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Raja Laut.

"We issued 343 summonses for various offences and seized 11 motorcycles due to illegal modifications. We focused on areas with public complaints," he said when contacted on Sunday.

Five motorcycle riders were detained for performing stunts and racing at Jalan Kuching on Sunday, he added.

"Those detained were aged between 16 and 21.

"They are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for riding recklessly," he said.

A total of 10 men whose ages range from 27 to 69 were also detained for driving while intoxicated, ACP Sarifudin said.
