Unexpected delivery sees baby dying in toilet

KLANG: It was an outing that turned into tragedy for a 37-year-old expectant mother, who had gone for a seafood treat at a restaurant in Sekinchan.

The woman, who went to the restaurant toilet to ease herself, ended up going into premature labour and her newborn infant slipped into the toilet bowl.

According to a Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, it happened at 4pm at the Abah Bonda Ikan Bakar eatery in Parit 7, Sekinchan.

“Firemen managed to retrieve the baby by breaking open the toilet bowl,” said the spokesman.

Unfortunately, the baby was declared dead by medics.

The mother, meanwhile, was sent to Hospital Tanjung Karang by ambulance.

The nearby fire station received a distress call at 6.03pm and nine firemen arrived at the scene within three minutes.

In an unrelated case in Alor Gajah, Melaka, a snatch thief grabbed dozens of dodol packs and also the seller’s gold chain at her home in Kampung Air Tanai, Ayer Pa’abas.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said that in the 11.40am incident yesterday, a man entered the 54-year-old entrepreneur’s house on the pretext of ordering some delicacies.

“The man snatched the gold chain off the woman and carted away a tray of dodol worth about RM30 before fleeing in a car,” he said.

The victim suffered no injuries but was traumatised by the incident. The gold chain is estimated to be worth RM2,000.
