PETALING JAYA: Border control and curbing the entry of undocumented migrants are part of the main focuses of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"The safety and sovereignty of the country are core aspects that ensure a peaceful and stable Malaysia.
"Among the initiatives that will be implemented include the improvement of our readiness, border control, enforcement, public and cyber security, as well as the welfare of those who serve," the Prime Minister said in his speech while tabling the 12MP in Parliament on Monday (Sept 27).
He added that for the 12MP, projects such as the Marine Police Sea Monitoring System at five maritime territories and the improvement of maritime assets will be initiated.
Additional housing for enforcement personnel is also being planned, with 10,200 new housing units for soldiers and their family members under construction.
Ismail Sabri said three key targets were also highlighted in the 12MP.
"The first is, Malaysia aims to be ranked 10th in the Global Peace Index.
"We are also targeting a 10-minute police response time," he said.
He added that the country is also aiming to keep the crime index to around 238 cases per 100,000population or lower.
"National security and sovereignty will continue to be given priority in ensuring a conducive environment for economic activities and safe living as well as maintaining a dignified and resilient nation.
"Emphasis will be given on safeguarding national sovereignty, intensifying efforts in crime prevention, rehabilitation and emergency preparedness as well as the welfare of the Armed Forces and enforcement personnel," he said.
