GOF arrests two, seizes RM200,000 worth of contraband booze and smokes


ISKANDAR PUTERI: The General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested two men and confiscated contraband cigarettes, fake alcohol and vehicles worth more than RM200,000 at Taman Nusantara Prima here.

GOF Fifth Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspects, aged 24 and 45, were arrested at about 5pm on Monday (Sept 6).

"Based on our investigations, we arrested two men at a house in Jalan Prima 5, Taman Nusantara Prima, for selling contraband cigarettes and processing fake liquor.

"Inspection inside the house also found 530 cartons of illicit cigarettes and 33 bottles of fake alcohol, and the equipment used in making the counterfeit alcohol, worth RM172,521," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 7).

Investigations also revealed that the house was used as a store by the suspects before selling the cigarettes and liquor in Iskandar Puteri.

The confiscated items included a bottle cap sealing machine, seven jerry cans containing alcohol, liquor stock and fake liquor, two electric pumps and two vehicles.

"All of the confiscated items are worth a total of RM262,521.

"The suspects also used methanol in making the fake liquor which is harmful to health and can cause heart and kidney failure," he added.

The case was being investigated under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of illegal goods and Section 75 of the Excise Act 1976 for making, processing liquor and possessing liquor-making equipment.
