PETALING JAYA: A 39-year-old suspect was detained after police discovered drugs in his vehicle at a roadblock along the Federal Highway.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police stopped the vehicle at the roadblock at about 1.40am on Friday (Sept 3).

"We seized 12g of syabu from the vehicle. The suspect also has a criminal record," he said when contacted on Friday, adding that the suspect has since been remanded for three days.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin added that checks will be stepped up at roadblocks to ensure that the laws and standard operating procedures (SOP) are complied with.

In another case, a 40-year-old lorry driver was arrested after police found heroin and syabu in his vehicle, said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin.

"The man was told to stop his vehicle during a snap check at 12.30am on Aug 31 near Sungai Way.

“We seized a plastic filled with syabu and a tube filled with heroin. The suspect was remanded for four days," he said.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said police need the cooperation of the public to successfully combat the drug menace.

"We hope those with information can contact any nearest police station," he said.
