KOTA KINABALU: Police will start hauling up those involved in a cult group spreading deviant teachings named "Kumpulan Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir (PMYT)" led by a woman claiming that World War III (WWIII) will begin in Sabah soon.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani such groups are not new in the country, with many similar ones having come and gone over the past decades, but tackled well by security forces.

“There have always been these types of threats, but police were able to manage and contain the spread of their activities and ideologies,” he said after a handing over ceremony for the Police Commissioner of Sabah duties here on Thursday (Sept 2).

Datuk Idris Abdullah, who was Bukit Aman Management Department deputy director, took over from outgoing Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali in the ceremony.

Acryl Sani said the main persons behind PMYT, which among others, tells its followers to prepare for doomsday or World War III, have been identified.

“Hauling them up is part of our plan, just give us some time,” Acryl Sani said.

“We need to work with other agencies including Islamic religious bodies for advice and so on before we can go further into our probe on this matter,” he said.

The leader, a woman who goes by the name "Sittah Annur", has claimed that WWIII would be sparked from Sabah before spreading to other states and that their members would consist of trained former and present uniformed men and women.

Asked whether there are any active members of PMYT detected in Sabah, Sabah outgoing police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said there are none.

Älthough the claim is that there are over 3,000 members of this group active in the country, they are mainly members of social media groups set up such on WhatsApp and Instagram, he said.

To another question on how serious a threat this movement is posing, Acryl Sani said it is under control.
