Former chief of Defence Force Mohd Ghazali passes away at 92

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Malaysia’s former chief of Defence Force Jen (R) Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ghazali Mohd Seth died on Tuesday (Aug 24) morning at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

He was 92.

The Public Affairs Division of the Malaysian Armed Forces headquarters said that Mohd Ghazali, the seventh armed forces chief, was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Islamic cemetery later the same day.

"Funeral rites were conducted at the Defence Ministry’s Khalid Al Walid Mosque, in full compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) around 2.30pm today.

"After prayers were completed, he was buried at the Bukit Kiara Islamic Cemetery in the presence of his closest family members,” it said in a statement.

The statement also said that the Chief of Defence Force Jen Tan Sri Affendi Buang and the entire armed forces personnel expressed their sadness and condolences to Mohd Ghazali’s family along with their prayers that he would be placed among the righteous.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ghazali’s son Datuk Mohd Badlisham Ghazali, 58, said his father, who was admitted to hospital a week ago after complaining of abdominal pain, died of complications due to pneumonia.

"My father breathed his last at around 10am, with my mother, Puan Sri Norziah Onn, and my sisters by his side.

"The doctor who treated my father told me the cause of death was due to lung infection,” he told Bernama.

According to him, his father, a cancer survivor, was active physically and mentally, and his death had come as a shock.

"Just this morning, he seemed okay and stable, but we as a family accept his passing,” he said.
