King conveys condolences to families victims killed in Yan flash floods

PETALING JAYA: The King has conveyed his condolences to the families of victims who died in flash floods in Yan, Kedah.

Bernama reported that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong expressed sadness over the deaths of three people and his appreciation to members of government agencies and departments involved in flood rescue operations in Kedah.

In the incident which occurred at about 5 pm on Wednesday (Aug 18), several areas around Gunung Jerai were hit by massive floods and landslides following a water surge from the peak of the mountain.

As at 4.30pm on Thursday (Aug 19), the bodies of four victims have been found. The rescuers also found one injured victim, while two more are still missing.

Two hill and water recreation parks – Titi Hayun and Seri Perigi were also flooded due to continuous rain.

The rains caused Sungai Kunyit, Sungai Teroi and Sungai Puteri Mandi to overflow, flooding the areas of Perigi, Teroi Bukit, Singkir, Kampung Permatang Keramat, Kampung Lubuk Boi, Pekan Yan Besar, Titi Teras, Kg Acheh and Kampung Setoi.

Fourteen Covid-19 positive patients, 45 on home quarantine orders and 60 others had to be evacuated.

The Covid-19 positive villagers were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Teroi, while others were relocated to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Yan.
