Landslide hits Balik Pulau following continuous rain

BALIK PULAU: Continuous rain triggered a landslide here near the Falak Sheikh Tahir Centre in Jalan Pantai Acheh in Balik Pulau on Monday (Aug 16).

The southwest district police said a landslide was reported at around 3pm.

"The Public Works Department (JKR) and contractors are at the scene to clean up the area.

"We advise the public to be careful and be alert to their surroundings, especially at places at risk of landslides," it said in a statement on Facebook.

Penang infrastructure and transport committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said JKR had dispatched a team to the scene after receiving a report on the incident at 1.30pm.

"The road affected by the landslide has been cleared to allow access to Pantai Acheh for road users," he said.
