UK Navy tweets in Bahasa about exercise with Royal Malaysian Navy

PETALING JAYA: A Commodore of the British Royal Navy has tweeted about an exercise routine with the Royal Malaysian Navy.

What makes this tweet from the Twitter handle Commander UK Carrier Strike Group (@smrmoorhouse) different is that it is written in Bahasa Malaysia.

The tweet, posted on Sunday evening (July 25), reads: "UK Carrier Strike Group telah mengadakan latihan bersama Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (@tldm_rasmi). Latihan ini mencerminkan komitmen bersama terhadap keselamatan maritim dan kerjasama serantau di Asia Tenggara. #CSG21 #GlobalBritain."

(The UK Carrier Strike Group has conducted an exercise with the Royal Malaysian Navy. This training is our shared commitment to maritime security and cooperation in South-East Asia.)

The tweet also has both the UK and Malaysian flag emojis on it, as well as pictures of naval vessels of both nations.

The tweet is believed to have been written by Commodore Steve Moorhouse.

The tweet received 177 retweets and 590 likes at the time of writing, and was retweeted by the Royal Malaysian Navy's official Twitter account @tldm_rasmi.

While Moorhouse tweets regularly in English, some of his tweets are written in other languages.

Some recent tweets were written in Japanese, Hindi and Thai, to address the navies of Japan, India and Thailand respectively.

Malaysia and the UK, along with Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, signed the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) in 1971.

The FPDA is a series of defence relationships and mutual cooperation arrangements established by a series of multilateral agreements among the five countries.
