PETALING JAYA: The government has come up with many plans to combat Covid-19, but the number of cases continue to increase, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former prime minister claimed that the government's only intention for the special Parliament sittings is to explain on its own actions.
"The Parliament special sitting should not be politicised by the Perikatan Nasional government with briefings on their own actions, but instead be used to find solutions to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The special sitting is for political reasons as the government feels it is under attack.
"The five days should not be for briefings, but to discuss solutions to manage the pandemic," said the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman in a press conference on Monday (July 26).
He also reiterated that he would not be part of the Covid-19 National Recovery Council (NRC) as it comprises politicians.
However, Dr Mahathir said as he is a trained doctor, he is qualified to be part of an apolitical recovery council.
"It is obvious that the NRC is a political body where members of the Opposition are also invited.
"It is a political grouping, but not one directed to deal with the increase of Covid-19 cases.
"What I would like to see is a body filled with professionals who are conversant in dealing with the pandemic.
"Politicians do not understand medicine, but I know a bit as I have been trained as a doctor. I will not be part of it," said Dr Mahathir.
