SUNGAI PETANI: A seven-month pregnant woman and her unborn baby girl died due to Covid-19 here on Saturday (July 17).

The woman was identified as a 25-year-old housewife from Kampung Pokok Asam, Pinang Tunggal, here who was expecting her third child - a girl - in two months.

She leaves behind her 35-year-old husband, and two sons aged three and six years old respectively.

Her husband, a used car salesman, said his wife breathed her last at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) after being confirmed positive for Covid-19 at 1.25pm on Saturday (July 17).

She was rushed to the hospital and warded after she complained of shortness of breath at her house at about 5.05am on Saturday.

"Since she became pregnant in January, she has never had any illness or allergies.

"I was shocked when she encountered breathing difficulties early Saturday morning as well as feeling weak.

"I rushed her to HSAH to receive treatment but eight hours later, she was confirmed dead due to Covid-19," the grieving husband said at his house on Sunday (July 18).

He said, since early June, he had always accompanied his wife at home as his workplace was closed due to the movement control order.

"When she died, I was not by her side and only saw her body when I was called in by the doctor to identify her and confirm her death," he said.

The body was taken to the Muslim cemetery at the Kampung Pokok Asam mosque for burial after the post-mortem was completed on Sunday afternoon.
