PETALING JAYA: MCA welcomes the appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the Deputy Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as a Senior Minister, saying that the party will continue to work closely with the two leaders.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said that the relevant appointments will further consolidate and strengthen the administration of the federal government.

"Both Ismail Sabri and Hishammuddin are experienced Cabinet ministers.

"With these appointments, our party believes that they will make more significant contributions to the nation and the rakyat," he said in a statement Wednesday (July 7).

Chong said MCA will continue to work closely with the two leaders and all Cabinet members.

"MCA will work closely with both leaders and all Cabinet members with the continued focus on defeating the pandemic, revitalising the economy and aiding the rakyat during these difficult times," said Chong.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced the appointment of Ismail Sabri as the Deputy Prime Minister while Hishammuddin has been appointed as a Senior Minister (Security Cluster).

The PMO said that Ismail Sabri will continue to hold the Defence Minister post while Hishammuddin would continue as Foreign Minister.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been informed of the two appointments, which will take effect immediately.
