PETALING JAYA: As Parliament looks set to reconvene, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz (pic) now says he supports the Prime Minister.
He claimed that this was because Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was not honest during his previous audience with the King.
He also said that Umno MPs no longer have confidence in the party president as their leader.
“The (Umno) MPs have lost confidence in (Zahid) as he misled the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the party’s support for Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“That is why I initiated the petition for Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to speak on our behalf,” he said when contacted Friday (July 2).
Earlier in January, Nazri held a press conference announcing that he withdrew support for Muhyiddin Yassin.
He now has backtracked on that announcement, having also admitted that he started a petition to support Hishammuddin as Barisan Nasional’s representative to the King.
The Padang Rengas MP also said the Umno supreme council’s stance in supporting Perikatan Nasional cannot overrule the resolutions made during the party's annual general assembly (AGM) in March.
He said that the resolution passed during the AGM was that the party will support Perikatan until the next general election.
“The supreme council is not empowered to go against the resolution of the Umno general assembly,” he said.
Following Nazri’s pledge of support to Muhyiddin again, reports surfaced that most of the Umno supreme council members have agreed to leave the Perikatan government before Aug 1.
