Covid-19: 107 fatalities bring death toll to 5,108

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 107 more Covid-19 deaths in the span of 24 hours up to noon Tuesday (June 29), according to the Health Ministry.

The death toll now stands at 5,108.

The country’s record number of deaths for a single day is 126, which was reported on June 2.

In his daily Covid-19 press updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said 43 of the death cases were reported in Selangor alone.

Other states with Covid-19 fatalities are Negri Sembilan (16 cases), Kuala Lumpur (11), Kedah (seven), Melaka (seven), Johor (six), Sabah (four), Kelantan (four), Labuan (four), Sarawak (two), Pahang (two) and Terengganu (one).

Eight of the deceased are foreign nationals while the rest are locals.

The youngest casualty is a 34-year-old man who died at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He had diabetes.

There are also 14 cases that have been classified as “brought-in-dead”.

Currently, 905 patients are being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 455 on ventilator support.

On Tuesday, Malaysia reported 6,437 new Covid-19 cases and 5,298 recoveries.

Active cases have now gone up to 62,844.

More than half of Malaysia’s cases were in the Klang Valley, with Selangor recording 2,299 infections and Kuala Lumpur logging 1,361 cases.

Most of Selangor’s cases were traced from close contacts of positive patients, numbering at 1,341 infections or 58%.

Another 850 cases in the state are sporadic infections.

Meanwhile, 716 or 52% of Kuala Lumpur’s infections are linked to clusters.
