Selangor Sultan consents for state assembly to reconvene on Aug 23

KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented for the state legislative assembly to reconvene on Aug 23.

Speaker Ng Suee Lim said he received a letter from the Selangor Palace on Friday (June 25) informing him of the royal consent.

The meeting will be the first in the 14th assembly's fourth term.

"It is the opening meeting for this year and Tuanku will deliver his royal address and open the meeting," said Ng.

He added Sultan Sharafuddin had however asked for the opening proceedings to be shortened.

"So we won't be having the outdoor ceremony such as the parade and the line-up for Tuanku to inspect," said Ng.

Selangor assemblymen from both divides have been pushing for the assembly to convene given the multitude of issues, especially relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, that needs to be discussed.

Ng said recently if the state of emergency does not end by the stipulated date for the state assembly to reconvene, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would seek an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah seeking royal consent to go ahead with the state legislative assembly.
