PETALING JAYA: Vaccination of port and cargo workers will begin on Friday (June 25), says Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
"We have received numerous applications to extend vaccination to other frontliners and will begin with the transport sector.
"I will be together with Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong in Port Klang tomorow (June 25) to begin the vaccination programme for port and cargo personnel," he said during an engagement session at the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia’s (NCCIM) 45th annual general meeting conducted virtually on Thursday (June 24).
Khairy also said that plans are underway to start the vaccination of e-hailing delivery riders by next month.
He was asked if vaccination would be extended to cover more industries including the transport sector.
Meanwhile, Khairy said there are also plans to open Langkawi to tourists under a pilot programme.
He said this has been done for destinations such as Phuket and Bali in Indonesia and Thailand.
"We are trying to open pockets of green bubbles for tourism where only tourists who are vaccinated can fly in but remain on Langkawi to do whatever they want," he said.
