Penang recorded 53 suicide deaths, 19 attempts from January to May this year


GEORGE TOWN: Nineteen suicide attempts were recorded in Penang between January and May this year, on top of 53 deaths from suicide.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Penang police Comm Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan announced the numbers at a state security action committee meeting.

"The rise in these numbers will be given special attention by the state Health Department, with emphasis on the aspect of mental health," he said on Monday (June 21).
