Covid-19: Sarawak records 536 new cases, seven deaths on Friday (June 18)

KUCHING: Sarawak reported 536 new Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities on Friday (June 18), taking the state's cumulative tally to 58,570 with a death toll of 373.

The state Disaster Management Committee said Sibu had the most cases with 115, followed by Kuching (60), Kanowit (52), Bintulu (40) and Bau (30).

Another 23 districts recorded between one and 28 cases each, it said in a statement.

The latest deaths were five men, aged between 70 and 82, and two women, aged 70 and 84.

The committee also said two new clusters were detected in Kuching.

The Kampung Sungai Agas cluster involves several families at Kampung Sungai Agas Lama at Jalan Matang.

"The cluster resulted from inter-district travel and close contact while attending a relative's funeral in Sri Aman.

"The infection then spread among family members and social contacts," the committee said, adding that 16 out of 30 people tested came back positive for the disease.

The Jalan Sungai Tapang is a workplace cluster involving a waste management company, with 31 confirmed cases out of 236 people screened to date.

The committee also said the Sungai Duan cluster in Mukah had ended after no new cases were reported in the last 28 days.

There are now 93 active clusters in the state.
