Five sub-zones in Labuan, several areas in Sabah and Pahang under EMCO

PUTRAJAYA: Several areas in Sabah, Pahang and Labuan will be placed under an enhanced movement control order after recording a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaako said that five sub-zones in Labuan will be under lockdown where the infectivity on the island as of May 23 is at 2.55 with the possibility of higher infectivity.

“After a risk assessment on the situation there, the government has agreed to enforce the enhanced MCO at five sub-zones in Labuan from May 26 to June 24, ” he said on Monday (May 24).

This will allow authorities to control the movement of the people in the affected areas to stop Covid-19 from infecting other communities.

In Putatan, Sabah, two localities - Taman Seri Ketiau and Taman Seri Seri Ketiau - will also be placed under enhanced MCO after a total of 21 positive cases were reported out of 282 screenings carried out on residents within a week.

Felda Global Ventures plantation in Kalabakan, Sabah will also be under the enhanced MCO after nine positive cases emerged from 47 swab tests carried out at the locality.

Kampung Sungai Imam in Tawau reported 17 positive cases from 57 screenings carried out in the past week.

Ismail Sabri said three sub-districts in Kuala Lipis, Pahang will also be placed under enhanced MCO.

They are the Kuala Lipis, Penjom and Budu sub-districts.

He said that at Budu sub-district, 51 cases were reported whereas at Kuala Lipis sub-districts, there are currently 24 cases and in Penjom, health authorities reported 57 cases between May 1 and 24.

The localities in Sabah and Pahang will be under the order from May 26-June 8.
