Security guard dies in custody at Gombak police HQ


GOMBAK: A security guard died in custody at the Gombak police headquarters after being arrested in Taman Selayang Baru here.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said the 43-year-old man experienced breathing difficulties after he was brought to the Gombak police headquarters on Thursday (May 20).

"We arrested the suspect at about 11.20am as the man was wanted for a criminal intimidation case.

"However, he experienced breathing difficulties at 11.40am and Hospital Selayang was alerted for emergency assistance," he said.

ACP Arifai said medical personnel from Hospital Selayang arrived at Gombak police headquarters and gave the suspect emergency treatment.

"However, the suspect was pronounced dead at 12.30pm despite efforts to treat him.

"Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had a history of heart problems.

"The case is classified as sudden death and the body has been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur," he added.
