Dr Wee said that Siti had taught him structural theory at the Faculty of Public Engineering of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1990.

"Her contribution to the country is immense. Prior to this, she served as the director-general of the Higher Education Ministry and was the 'headmaster' of all universities in Malaysia," he said in an Instagram post on Sunday (May 16) night.

He said that the rankings of the public and private universities improved when she was in the Higher Education Ministry.

He said that Siti was scheduled to retire in March of this year, but her contract was extended as the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme required her expertise.

"This is the attribute of a true educator who does not know the meaning of tiredness and is always ready to serve and sacrifice to help those in need. Well done and thank you teacher!" he said.
