100,000 compounds issued over SOP violations since MCO 1.0, says Bukit Aman

JOHOR BARU: More than 100,000 compounds have been issued nationwide for various Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) violations since March last year.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Jaafar said apart from not wearing face masks and failing to practice physical distancing, another common violation was attempting to cross state borders without valid reasons.

“We understand the public’s sentiment. Some are upset getting stuck for hours at police roadblocks but we are just doing our part to break the chain of infections,” he told a press conference in Taman Desa Idaman in Senai here on Wednesday (May 12).

“We do not want people to get away with giving false justification for crossing state borders.

“All kinds of tactics and methods have been used to travel under the movement control order, including using work passes to go home for Hari Raya.

“So we have to be more thorough during inspections to ensure that they do not get away with deception,” he said.

Comm Abd Rahim said special lanes have been allocated at roadblocks for vehicles ferrying essential goods.

“We have prepared a special lane for these vehicles to ensure that essential economic activities are not slowed down by roadblocks,” he said.
