PUTRAJAYA: The number of symptomatic Covid-19 positive patients increased to 50% in the past month, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (pic).
The Health Minister said this was in contrast with the situation back in March when symptomatic cases were only 21% out of all positive cases.
“The number of positive cases involving those with symptoms has surged.
“Therefore, if you start having symptoms such as fever or losing your sense of taste or smell, you need to immediately isolate yourself and get tested, ” Dr Adham said on Monday (May 10) at his weekly joint press conference with National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Dr Adham said those with symptoms should immediately isolate themselves from other people even if their Covid-19 test results are still pending.
“You need to undergo voluntary self-isolation. Do not go and meet other people before you receive your Covid-19 test result.
“If you are classified as a close contact, quarantine yourself for at least 10 days from the most recent encounter with the positive patient.
“Stay at home and wait for the district health clinic to contact you. In the meantime, conduct self-checks as instructed by the health assessment tool on MySejahtera, ” said Dr Adham.
On the latest Covid-19 case indicators, Dr Adham said there were 136 deaths from Covid-19 for the week of May 2 to May 8.
This is an increase of 43.2% from the previous week's (April 25-May 1) figure of 95.
On hospital capacity, Dr Adham said the total usage of beds for Covid-19 cases is at 67% nationwide.
"The number of beds at intensive care units (ICU) being occupied is currently at 68%.
"The number of active Covid-19 clusters is now at 429," he said.
There were 106 new clusters detected in the week of May 2 to May 8, he added, with workplaces (44) contributing the most to the increase.
