Covid-19: Gudang Genting cluster among 19 new clusters identified

PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 outbreak involving employees of a business establishment in Genting Highlands is among 19 new clusters reported on Monday (May 10).

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the outbreak, named the Gudang Genting cluster, has 14 confirmed cases so far.

“The Gudang Genting cluster involves workers of a business premise in Genting Highlands, Bentong.

“The index case of this cluster is a 28-year-old woman who tested positive on May 5, after undergoing a screening for close contacts, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The cluster is classified as a workplace outbreak - one of the seven clusters of the same category reported on Monday.

The other new clusters are categorised as community clusters (five), religious activities (five) and education sector (two).

The Emperan cluster in Selangau, Sarawak, saw a total 97 confirmed positive cases.

This was following a targeted screening exercise on the community of Emperan Ubah, where 436 individuals have been tested.

One of the five clusters linked to religious activities is the Pekan Pasir Mas cluster in Kelantan, where 51 cases have been confirmed.

The index case is a 20-year-old man who developed symptoms on April 14, before testing positive for Covid-19 on April 19.
