Covid-19: 3,744 new cases, 17 fatalities bring death toll to 1,591


PUTRAJAYA: There are 3,744 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, the Health Ministry confirmed on Wednesday (May 5).

This is an increase compared to Tuesday (May 4)'s 3,120 cases and 2,500 cases on Monday (May 3).

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 1,548 new infections.

Six other states recorded three-digit figures - Kelantan with 480 cases, Sarawak (419), Kuala Lumpur (313), Johor (292), Penang (195) and Kedah (124).

Cumulatively, Malaysia has 424,376 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

The country also recorded 17 more Covid-19 fatalities, bringing the death toll up to 1,591.

Currently, there are 328 patients under intensive care treatment.

Of that number, 185 are on ventilator support.

In the same 24-hour span, 2,304 patients were discharged from treatment.

The total number of recoveries is now 389.846 which is a rate of 91.86%.
