Body of newborn girl found in plastic box in Batu Pahat alley


BATU PAHAT: The body of a baby girl with her umbilical cord still intact was found inside a plastic box in an alley behind Jalan Kluang here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said that the police were notified about the discovery at around 6.40pm on Monday (May 3).

“A member of the public found the plastic box together with the body behind a business premises before notifying the police.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had been left at the location for more than 24 hours as the body had starting to decompose, ” he said here Tuesday (May 4).

ACP Ismail added that checks from CCTV footage in the area recorded a figure, believed to be a man, placing the box at the location last Tuesday (April 27).

He said the body has been sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital here for a postmortem to find out the cause of death.

ACP Ismail also said the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth by secretly disposing of the remains of a deceased baby.

He urged those with information relating to the case to immediately channel it to the Batu Pahat police headquarters at 07-436 3300.
