EMCO for Kg Bergosong in Tawau, extended for Tanah Merah tahfiz in Kelantan

PETALING JAYA: Kampung Bergosong at Tawau will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for two weeks from Sunday (May 2 to 15).

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry conducted 59 screenings and 22 positive cases were recorded within the span of a week.

"After a risk assessment by the MCO technical committee, the government agreed to place the locality under enhanced MCO from Sunday (May 2) to May 15," he said in a statement on Saturday (May 1).

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah, Kelantan which was scheduled to end on Sunday, is extended to May 16.

"The Health Ministry conducted 866 screenings and 422 positive cases were recorded.

"The ministry reported that the virus was still spreading among residents within the EMCO area," he said, adding that there were also six samples awaiting results.

He said after a risk assessment by the MCO technical committee, the government agreed to extend the EMCO there to May 16.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the EMCO at the SMKA Kota Kinabalu and the UMS Campus at Kota Kinabalu would end as scheduled on Saturday (May 1) and Sunday respectively.

"At the UMS Campus, 5,611 screenings were conducted and 35 positive cases were recorded while at SMKA Kota Kinabalu, 836 screenings were conducted and 190 positive cases were recorded," he said.

He said the decision was made following a risk assessment by the MCO technical committee.
