Man arrested in Pontian, RM111,000 worth of firecrackers seized


PONTIAN: A man has been arrested by the General Operations Force (GOF) here for allegedly possessing RM111,000 worth of firecrackers.

GOF Battalion 5 commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the suspect in his 30s was arrested at about 10pm on Wednesday (April 21) near a jetty at Pontian Besar.

"Checks on a lorry used by the suspect found 26 boxes filled with a variety of firecrackers worth about RM111,000.

"The suspect has been brought to the Pontian police headquarters for further action," he said in a statement here on Thursday (April 22).

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 (Act 207).

“We encourage the public to continue channelling information to the police so we can take action to bust contraband activities in Johor, ” added Supt Dimin.
