Zahid's position as Umno president 'increasingly untenable', says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin (pic) has repeated calls for Umno party elections to be held, adding that president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's position in the party is "increasingly untenable".

The former Umno Youth chief said this in response to a question on the audio clip that is allegedly a recording of a conversation between Ahmad Zahid and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"Many people in the party are very uncomfortable with the phone conversation purportedly between our party president and Anwar. I think Ahmad Zahid's position is increasingly untenable as president of the party," he said at an autism awareness campaign launched by Duopharma Biotech and the National Autism Society of Malaysia on Friday (April 9).

The Rembau MP said the party's supreme council must meet immediately in relation to this issue.

"They must allow for the party elections to take place immediately. The best way to move on is to have a party election now, not wait until the end of the year," he said.
