Party's over: Cops nab 'Datuk Seri', 33 others for violating MCO at Bukit Mertajam nightclub

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A businessman with a "Datuk Seri" title and two foreigners without documentation were among thirty-four people nabbed early Saturday (April 3) morning for violating the conditional movement control order.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Abd Samad said the 23 men and 11 women, were caught in a 12.05am raid on Saturday at a nightclub in Jalan Gemilang, Bukit Mertajam, during an operation dubbed Ops Noda.

"The detainees are aged from 19 to 62 and were busy partying when the raiding party entered the premises," he said in a statement on Saturday.

ACP Shafee said the partygoers were found to have not been following the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government such as physical distancing, wearing facemasks and registering via the MySejahtera application.

He said the detainees will be compounded in accordance with Regulation 19(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulations 2021.

ACP Shafee said the two foreign nationals are a Bangladeshi man who worked at the premises as a part-time cleaner and a Vietnamese woman who had followed her Malaysian boyfriend to the club and added that both were also arrested under Section 15 (1) of the Immigration Act 1952.
