Cases finally below 1,000

PETALING JAYA: The country’s daily Covid-19 figures finally dipped below the 1,000-mark for the first time in months.

Malaysia logged 941 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the first time it saw triple-digit figures since Dec 9,2020.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that the cumulative total of confirmed Covid-19 cases to date is 342,885.

Selangor is the state with the highest number of new infections, with 219 cases (or 23.3% of all new cases).

This is followed by Sarawak (192) and Johor (171).

Recoveries also outpaced new infections as 1,097 recoveries were reported, bringing the total number of recoveries to 327,406 nationwide. There are still 166 patients under intensive care, with 73 requiring ventilation support.

Five patients have also died, bringing the death toll to 1,260.

Aged between 42 and 82, two of the deceased were from Sarawak, two were from Sabah while one was from Selangor.

Meanwhile, there are three new Covid-19 clusters – two are workplace transmissions while one is a community transmission.

The Seksyen 16 cluster is linked to an educational institution in Seksyen 16, Bandar Baru Bangi.

Spanning the Hulu Langat and Sepang districts in Selangor, the cluster currently has 18 positive cases linked to it.

The Jalan Azlan cluster involves an administrative centre in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Sentul Kepong and has nine cases linked to it.

It now spans the Kepong and Titiwangsa districts in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Kuala Langat district in Selangor.

The Taman Vistagro cluster involves community transmission in Sri Aman, Sarawak, and currently has 18 new cases.
