Kuantan Art Street to get CCTVs after cases of vandalism

KUANTAN: CCTV cameras will be installed at Kuantan Art Street here to ensure that artworks of 13 local artists are not vandalised.

State Tourism, Culture, Environment, Plantation and Commodity Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said the installation of CCTVs was necessary as some murals and accessories were damaged less than a month after the site was opened to the public.

“We spent about RM500,000 to change the landscape of almost 200m of back alleys in Jalan Besar.

“We want the artworks that took months to complete to be well preserved.

“The installation of CCTV cameras will hopefully help us catch the perpetrators who damaged the artworks and they can be prosecuted accordingly, ” he told reporters after visiting Kuantan Art Street on Wednesday night. — Bernama
