SEREMBAN (Bernama): Indiscriminate dumping of used face masks in the city is an offence and a RM250 fine awaits offenders under the Local Government Act 1976, says Seremban Mayor Datuk Zazali Salehudin.
He said the Seremban City Council (MBS) had received many complaints about littering of face masks by members of the public, especially at the Seremban Lake Garden.
"Face masks need to be disposed of properly in the right place because it can endanger other people's health.
"MBS is taking various measures to address this issue such as sending enforcement officers to conduct patrols at the Seremban Lake Garden, while the Parks and Landscapes Department has appointed contractors to clean the area," he said in a statement on Friday (March 12).
He said uncontrolled dumping of face masks could also threaten the environment, especially marine life, besides clogging waterways. – Bernama
