Diners fined for overcrowding at Kapit eatery

SIBU: Four men in Kapit have been fined RM1,000 each for sitting at a table meant only for two persons.

A 17-year old here was also fined RM1,000 for breaking a home quarantine order.

Kapit OCPD Deputy Supt Freddy Bian said a standard operating procedure (SOP) monitoring team caught the four men at an eatery along Jalan Airport at 6pm on Wednesday (March 10).

"They were sitting at a table meant for two. Compounds were issued against them for defying the conditional movement control order," he said Thursday (March 11), adding that the men were aged between 36 and 58 years old.

A half-hour later, he said, another SOP monitoring team acting on a public complaint caught a 17-year-old boy wearing a home quarantine wristband in Taman Height.

"He had been ordered to undergo home quarantine by the Health Ministry but instead he was outside loitering around," said DSP Freddy.

He urged the public to inform the police of anyone wearing a Covid-19 quarantine wristband seen in a public place.

"This also goes to business operators. They must inform us if their customers do not follow SOPs like not wearing a facemask and not observing physical distancing," he added.

DSP Freddy said business owners could also be fined for not ensuring that their customers comply with SOPs or for failing to report to the police.
