Tenaganita director Aegile Fernandez passes away at 72

PETALING JAYA: Migrant rights group Tenaganita director Aegile Fernandez passed away due to health complications on Tuesday (March 9).

Aegile, who grew up in Sungai Petani, Kedah, was 72.

She was the younger sister of Tenaganita founder Irene Fenandez, who died in 2014.

Both of them were vocal critics of human trafficking practices and were champions of the downtrodden, especially migrants and refugees.

"Aegile has been a warm glow of comfort in so many lives and a bright and enduring light in the fight for justice and equality.

"We ask that if you are comfortable, please light a candle for her today.

"Importantly, she'd want you to keep up her mission for justice, her practice of kindness, her open heart to all who have the least," her family said in a short message.
