Warisan wants Sebatik rep to vacate seat following resignation

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah will invoke a pre-signed resignation letter for Sebatik assemblyman Hassan Amir Gani to vacate the seat after he announced that he was leaving the party to become an Independent.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the letter would be submitted to State Assembly Speaker Datuk Kadzim Yahya and copied to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and the Election Commission.

He said Hassan, like other Warisan candidates for the Sept 26 state elections, had willingly taken a pledge to remain with the party and serve until the end of the term.

“He signed it of his own free will with legal witnesses and took a pledge in the name of God to remain with the party and serve the people till the current assembly term ends.

“We will submit the letter in the next few days. In the meantime, we are looking at other legal actions, ” Shafie said at a press conference after meeting with all 21 Warisan assemblymen and seven MPs here yesterday.

Hassan, who announced his resignation via national news agency Bernama on Feb 25, has not sent in his resignation letter to

the party and remained unreachable to former party members as well as most of the media.
