300 doctors in Penang stand by for immunisation plan, says Jagdeep

GEORGE TOWN: Nearly 300 practitioners in Penang are ready to aid in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, says Jagdeep Singh Deo (pic).

The state local government committee chairman said the state had engaged private clinics under the Penang Medical Practitioners Society to help execute the programme.

“There are more than 200 private clinics in Penang with over 200 doctors who have agreed to help with the programme.

“We have got dental clinics on board as well, with over 50 members under the dental association here, ” he told a press conference after a spot check at Esplanade here on Thursday (Feb 18).

“In Penang, we are prepared to aid in whichever way to get the vaccines out, ” he said, adding that nearly 300 practitioners in the state stood ready to help in the programme.

Jagdeep also called on the Health Ministry to disseminate more information on vaccines and their efficacy for local governments to convince the public to take the jabs.

He said the public continued to raise questions about the incoming vaccines and their effectiveness.

“We need further information from the ministry pertaining to the vaccines’ efficacy and for us to be sure that there are no side effects.

“This will enable us to convince the people to take the vaccines, ” he said.

Jagdeep said that under the Covid-19 immunisation programme, Phase One focuses on providing vaccines to the frontliners.

“We need information on the full list so that we’ll know who get the vaccines first, ” he said.
