CNY is about family, says Selangor Sultan

Happy Chinese New Year!: Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin with their pet cat Snowy wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Cai.

KLANG: In his annual Chinese New Year message to the people, Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said the festival was a time when families bond together and strengthen their ties.

“It’s a wonderful tradition passed from one generation to another which helps to remind our young of the importance of family, ” said a statement issued by Istana Alam Shah.

The statement said Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin wished those celebrating Chinese New Year and their families good health, safety, success and happiness.

“May wealth and prosperity come your way, ” they said.

Sultan Sharafudin also reminded everyone that since the festival is being celebrated amid the movement control order, celebrants must keep calm and watchful given that these restrictions were implemented to keep everybody safe and healthy.

“His Royal Highness reminds the people to heed the Health Ministry’s advice to stay away from crowds and confined spaces, as well as to maintain a safe distance when in conversation with guests.

“His Royal Highness wants all of us to also remember those making personal sacrifices to keep our nation safe during this pandemic, especially our dear frontliners, including law enforcement personnel, hospital staff, cleaners and many others, ” said the Palace.

It added that despite the headwinds in the country today, “we know that when we work together, we get things done.”

“Let’s look forward to the opportunity to refresh ourselves and start anew, ” the Palace said, concluding with the greeting “Gong Xi Fa Cai!”
