Lemang maker falls prey to online scam, loses almost RM100k


MELAKA: A traditional lemang maker has lost close to RM100,000 to a scammer after falling prey to a scam through WhatsApp.

State Commercial Crime chief Supt E. Sundra Rajan said the 47-year-old female entrepreneur from Bukit Katil here received a message through WhatsApp in June last year about an investment opportunity.

“The woman got excited about the potential profit. She deposited a total of RM96,930 into three bank accounts between June and Jan 21.

“She realised that she had been duped when she did not receive a single sen and lodged a police report on Tuesday, ” he said.
