Police roadblock at junction of Jalan Pasai Siong leading to the longhouses.
SIBU: Forty-eight longhouses in this district are still under lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 stemming from the Pasai cluster.
The Pasai Cluster was confirmed on Jan 9 and its index case was traced to a 32-year-old woman who came back from Johor on Dec 29 to attend her father's funeral ceremony.
She was found positive for Covid-19 on Jan 6.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the number of longhouses under lockdown changes every day, depending on the Covid-19 situation in their respective areas.
"As of Monday (Jan 25), there are 48 longhouses under lockdown. Kanowit has 14 and Selangau 6," he said.
The Sibu division, which covers the Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau districts, are under a movement control order until Jan 29.
"When a longhouse is under lockdown, all residents are not allowed to go out," he said.
He, however, did not deny that some residents might have sneaked out for "two to three hours" through their farms.
"There is no denying that some might have sneaked out through their farms at the back of the longhouse. We only have roadblocks at the road leading to the longhouse, as we cannot deploy our men at all corners," he said.
