New tahfiz cluster emerges in Kalabakan district, Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in the Kalabakan district in Sabah, with a tahfiz student as the index case.

The Kampung Bombalai cluster has 16 cases so far. Close contact screening and tracing of the infection source are ongoing.

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun revealed this in a statement on Saturday (Jan 23).

"The index case, a Madrasah Sulaimanniyah Tahfiz student at Bombalai, was confirmed positive following a symptomatic screening on Jan 16.

"Following the discovery, screening was also done on other students and teaching staff of the religious school," he said.

Sabah recorded 498 new cases on Saturday, bringing the cumulative figure to 46,360. No deaths were recorded.

The cumulative number of recoveries is 42,013.
