AMPANG: A 24-hour gambling den in Pandan Jaya was raided by the police on Friday (Jan 22) night following a tip-off and surveillance.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said 12 customers -10 locals and two foreigners - were detained as they were in the midst of gambling.
He added that some players managed to escape due to a secret door which led to the upper floors of the premises.
"We also detained five Indonesian women and an Indonesian man who worked as a host and hostesses at the premises," he said.
He said that the foreign women are believed to have been used to lure male customers.
ACP Mohamad Farouk said that the police team also seized various items, including routers, modem and gambling equipment.
"We believe the premises operated for 24 hours since two weeks ago," he said when met after the raid on Friday night.
He added that the syndicate only catered to their loyal customers.
"The Inspector-General of Police has always instructed us to raid such premises and curb all illegal gambling elements. Don't think that we will not conduct such raids during the movement control order," he said.
ACP Mohamad Farouk said that the police will be stepping up efforts against illegal gambling as such activities can ruin society.
"We urge the public with information on any crime, especially illegal gambling to contact the police. We won't let gambling syndicates gain a foothold in Ampang," he said.
