Found: Body of man swept away in car after heroically saving wife from flood

KLUANG: The Fire and Rescue Department has found the body of a man whose car was swept away by flood waters on Saturday (Jan 2).

The victim, identified as Md Rajihan Junaidi, was found in a banana farm some 100m away from the main road.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Akob Sedek said that the body was found at about 5pm Monday (Jan 4).

"The operation to search for the victim was in its third day with nine fire and rescue personnel, nine police officers, 10 Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart Malaysia) personnel and five Civil Defense personnel.

"The victim's body was found in a banana farm about 100m away from the main road. His body was taken out of the water using a boat and handed over to the police," Akob said Monday.

He added that the victim's car was found on Sunday (Jan 3) at about 6pm near a drain.

Meanwhile, Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Low Hang Seng confirmed that the victim's body had been found.

"The incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Saturday at Batu 18 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing near Kahang.

“The victim had tried to cross the road in his car, but was pushed to the right side of the road by the strong currents.

“The victim broke a window to free his wife, who was later rescued by members of the public.

“However, he could not get out in time as the car was swept away by the currents, ” he said.

It was earlier reported that the authorities were searching for the victim who had been swept away in his car after saving his wife's life.

This is the third life that was lost due to the flood here in Johor.
