Covid-19: Employers to pay for quarantine, treatment of foreign workers

PUTRAJAYA: Employers will have to bear the cost of quarantining and treating their foreign workers who are Covid-19 positive, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this was agreed by the National Security Council's special meeting.

“Employers are to bear the cost for their foreign workers who are positive and are transferred to hospital or to Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres,” he said on Thursday (Dec 24).

He also said the government was intensifying checks on accommodations for foreign workers under Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

He said to-date, 12 companies had been slapped with 27 charges.
