KUALA LUMPUR: The deadline for The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) entries submission has been extended to Dec 15, so small and medium enterprises (SMEs) still have time to participate in the awards programme.
While the Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the profitability of businesses, SMEs have to keep their eye on sustainability, with one way of doing so by identifying gaps in their businesses that can be eliminated to improve efficiency and productivity, as well as reduce unnecessary costs.
Aimed at inspiring and local businesses during these difficult times, the awards also highlight the importance of SME contribution to Malaysia’s economic growth and the sector’s vital role in nation-building.
Unlike previous years, there are a few new additions to the awards categories for SOBA 2020, namely the two new categories of ‘Best in Customer Service’ and ‘Best in Retail’ to better reflect the diversity of Malaysian SMEs.
The ‘Best in Customer Service’ category will serve to recognise companies providing exemplary services to their clients, while the ‘Best in Retail’ category will highlight innovative, creative and top-class retailers across the country.
As with the other categories, there will be two tiers of the award based on company turnover (up to RM25mil turnover and above RM25mil turnover).
SOBA 2020 is organised by SMG with Digi, PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd and RHB Bank Bhd as main sponsors, Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Bhd as co-sponsor and Matrade as official trade promotion partner.
It is endorsed by the International Trade and Industry Ministry, supported by Bursa Malaysia and audited by BDO with dimsum, 988 and Suria as official media partners.
The awards, which marks the achievements of enterprises that have made a difference to the nation’s economy by opening new frontiers, aim to inspire and steer local, non-listed companies towards greater success by promoting business excellence and stimulating positive competition.
