JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly making a slanderous statement on Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador and Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Comm Ayob said K. Haridas was arrested at his house at Taman Pasir Mas, Rantau in Negri Sembilan at about 9pm on Monday (Nov 23).
“The suspect has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court here and was granted an RM10,000 bail which he did not pay.
“Background checks also revealed that he had six priors on his criminal record, ” he said, adding that the suspect is currently being held at the Kangkar Pulai police station lockup with his case re-mentioning set on Dec 15.
Comm Ayob said that the suspect had been arrested for a previous case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation against a police officer back in 2017.
“He was charged at the court on March 3 this year and offered RM4,000 bail. He, however, failed to pay the fine and was jailed at the Ulu Choh remand centre until March 11 where he paid the fine.
“He then failed to come to court for his case re-mention on April 1 where the court then issued a wanted order on him, ” he said during a press conference at Johor police headquarters on Wednesday (Nov 25).
Comm Ayob also informed that police were also finalising paperwork to request an order to investigate (OTI) from the public prosecutor on his two new offences for making a slanderous statement against the IGP and him.
The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for sharing offensive and menacing content.
The suspect had allegedly questioned Hamid's and Comm Ayob’s integrity and made a false accusation through a Facebook video on Friday (Nov 20).
The 17-min 39-second video was uploaded through an NGO's Facebook page by the man, who openly named Comm Ayob and the IGP and accused both of them of not doing their duties.
