Sudden passing of Gerik MP Hasbullah a shock to peers (updated)

IPOH: The death of Gerik MP Datuk Hasbullah Osman came as a shock to many of his peers, including Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“On behalf of the state government and the people, I express my condolences to Hasbullah's family.

“He will be remembered as a leader who did a lot for constituents during his service as Temengor assemblyman and MP, ” he said.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Wong Kah Woh said that he had attended a committee meeting on Monday (Nov 16) with Hasbullah, Special Investigation Committee on Governance, Procurement and Finance chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, and other PAC members.

“He engaged actively and contributed a lot with his experience in his short two days of service with the PAC.

“May his soul rest in peace, ” Wong posted on his Facebook page on Monday.

Perak Umno chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad said Hasbullah, who was his deputy, was always committed to his tasks and always came forward with ideas to strengthen the party.

“I am saddened and shocked at news of his passing. We at Perak Umno have lost a friend who was always loyal to our cause, ” he posted on Facebook.

Hasbullah won the Gerik parliamentary seat with a 5,528-vote majority over PAS’ Mohd Dahalan Ismail and PKR’s Ibrahim Mohd Hanafiah in the 14th General Election in May 2018.

He was also the Temengor state assemblyman from 2004 to 2013.

Just last week, Hasbullah had been chosen to be part of the PAC with Cameron Highlands MP Ramli Mohd Nor, replacing Tanjung Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar and Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Hasbullah, who is also Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd chairman, passed away from a heart attack at Hospital Raub on Monday at about 7pm. He was 63.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mah Hang Soon also expressed his condolences to Hasbulah's family.

“His passing is a big loss to the people of Gerik and also Perak, ” said the state MCA chairman”.

Earlier in July, Perak Umno also lost one of its veteran leaders in former Slim assemblyman Khusairi Abdul Talib.

The four-term incumbent also died from a heart attack.
