PETALING JAYA: Malaysia looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the United States under the leadership of President-elect Joe Biden, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a message of congratulations on Biden's electoral victory
In a press release on Sunday (Nov 8) the Prime Minister said Malaysia hopes to continue and expand its existing partnership with the US on various issues and global fronts, including fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I wish President-elect Joe Biden great success in his presidency, and look forward to meeting him personally when an opportunity arises," he added, saying that he extends his heartfelt congratulations to the Democratic presidential nominee.
He said that Malaysia has followed the electoral process in the US closely with much anticipation.
"The American voters have decided decisively in endorsing Biden as the 46th President of the United States for his leadership and vision," said Muhyiddin.
In a US presidential election closely watched by a global audience, the former vice-president rose to defeat the incumbent Republican Donald Trump on Saturday (Nov 7) night after a few days of nail-biting vote counting.
Muhyiddin added that as a fast-growing developing country, Malaysia attaches great importance to its relations with the United States.
He said that the US-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership continues to be an overarching framework for pro-active, multifaceted and mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries.
